The Gombaszög Summer Camp is one of the biggest summer events for young Hungarians in Slovakia: a week-long festival, a free university and a camp. The event is currently being held since 2008, but not without any precedent!
In terms of the nature of the Gombaszög Summer Camp, it is a diverse public cultural event, it has a long tradition within the (Czech) Hungarian community in Slovakia, as such camps look back on several decades of history. The beginnings of this tradition date back to 1928, and from the 1960s onwards (often in spite of the socialist systems of the existing barrier) the Hungarian university student clubs in Czechoslovakia gained new impetus and spirituality. Despite all the difficulties, hundreds of people took part in these events every year, until a new chapter in the life of the Camp began in 2008. Today, the event has thousands of campers and visitors!
